Antoine "Twan" Roels joined the Belgian Air Force in 1965. During the last 15 years of his 38-year long career he has been the official photographer for the BAF - Public Affairs Services. In that function he was the sole photographer allowed to fly the air-to-air photo missions in all the types of BAF aircraft and responsible for the photography in the official BAF publications and countless reports for international aviation books and magazines.
He logged nearly 4500 flying hours for air-to-air photography in over 140 different aircraft types of several air forces and flew and photographed with most of the aerobatic display teams as 'Patrouille de France', 'Red Arrows', 'Frecce Tricolori', 'Patrulla Aguila', 'Patrouille de Suisse', 'Canadian Snowbirds', and 'Biele Albatrosy'.
For his air-to-air assignments he can appeal on the best "formation cleared" pilots and most suitable aircraft, -from open canopy training aircraft till fast jets. These allow perfect photo shoot conditions as well for slow aircraft as for the fastest commercial, business or military jets.
In 1992 he became also member of the CAF, the Commemorative Air Force -formerly known as the Confederate Air Force-, -THE AIR FORCE- who still fly all those "old" WWII aircraft at air shows all over the USA. As crew member of the only flying B-29A and "OL 924" the oldest B-24A WWII bomber of the whole world and still flying he spends every year lots of weeks touring around in the USA as crewmember with those aircraft.
After his retirement from the Belgian Air Force in 2003, Antoine also founded IAPA, the International Aviation Photography Agency, which has the capability to provide any aviation business company with the perfect photography for all their publications. In 2010 he obtained a Master degree in Photography at the South Californian University in Irvine USA
Antoine Roels is also member of ISAP, The International Society of Aviation Photographers, a society that gathers the leading aviation photographers of the world, the Belgian Aviation Press Club, and “The Vieilles Tiges van de Belgische Luchtmacht”.

Since my assignment in 1988 as photographer for Public Affairs Belgian Air Force I've been responsible for countless reports in the official Belgian Air Force publications and all the photographic PR matters for the BAF display pilots. My pictures has also been published in lots of aviation magazines and books all over the world.
In 1999 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of NATO, the Belgian Postal Services choose my F-16 picture "Formation by dawn" for the commemorative stamp to celebrate that anniversary.
In the period from 1995 - 1997, the Belgian VRT television made a 23 episodes long fiction TV production about life, love and adventures of the pilots and crews of the 40th Search and Rescue Squadron of Koksijde AFB. "Windkracht 10" For the promotion of this production I was also involved in most of the aerial photography.
