Sun 'n Fun organized for the 35th year, and this year from April 21st till 26th 2009 is known by most pilots as the kick off to the air show season. For many pilots, it's also reminiscent of spring break, especially for those from the North have had a long winter and looking forward to coming down here for the friendly weather the friendly people and the friendly activities on the Sun 'n Fun site.Of course, the spring break theme resonates with all pilots and not just these from the North... First "Sea King" Mk.48 of Belgian Air Component put into retirement.

Known as the guardian angels of the Belgian coast, the Sea King's of the 40th Search & Rescue Squadron at Koksijde AFB reached more than 30 years of good and faithful services. Delivered on December 19th, 1975, RS01 was put into 'retirement' this December 17th, 2008 after 33 years of dedicated service.After this last flight from Koksijde AFB to Brussels, with Base Commander Lieutenant-Colonel Aviator Rudy THEYS, at the commands and assisted by Commander-Aviator Karel "Fozzy" Kinable and Flight Engineer Rudy Debergh, RS01 will now find its place near his brothers in arms of all times within the 'air-section' of the Royal Army Museum at Brussels located within the prestigious framework of the park of the 'Cinquantenaire' (half a century - fiftieth anniversary park)... In the many years that the CAF has owned and operated the B-24, AM927, how many different stories have you heard regarding her history? As of this writing, I have only been with the CAF for just under 10 years, but have personally heard several different stories with an equal amount of different variations. More than 250,000 visitors were recorded at the ILA2006 between 16 and 21 May, including 115,000 trade visitors. Ever had that feeling by the end of August beginning of September, -when airshow season comes slowly to an end in Europe- that you're getting "airshow tired" and feel you've seen everything ? Than it's time to check your passport, get some dollars, take your suitcase, and fly to Reno NV, "The Biggest Little City in the World" and experience the fastest motorsport event of the world "The National Air Races " A fatal crash during the Cleveland air races in 1949, was long time supposed to be the "Beginning of the End" of all air races" Nearly fifteen years later, in September 1964 , Bill Stead former WWII pilot and owner of the Sky Ranch some 20 miles east of Reno, organized for the first time the Reno Air Races on the adjacent airfield strip of his ranch gathering pilots from all over the USA to compete in four different air races classes. However as race conditions were far from ideal at the dusty Sky Ranch airfield strip, in 1966 the organization moved to the Reno-Stead airport north of Reno, since then, and this year already for the 43th time, mid September is every year again, the "Mecca" for air race fans from all over the world. On return from one of my stays in the USA, in the beginning of August this year, I received a phone call from the Marketing & Communications Manager from SN Brussels Airlines if I could provide the company with new pictures of their aircraft in their new livery. As these pictures had to be ready by the first week-end of October when the company had an open house and they wanted to have some new posters and postcards ready to offer to the public, it all had to happen rather fast and therefore they opted for pictures token on the ground at Brussels National Airport...
